Social ActionUUs everywhere recently gave generously to the UUA and UUSC joint earthquake relief fund. We are proud to report that to date, January 29, 2010, this fund totals over $470,000. The outpouring of love and support for the people of Haiti is truly inspiring. With these resources, the UUSC will be able to alleviate short-term suffering and address long-term needs in Haiti. Thank you.

Social ActionForty-one WHUUFers gathered in fellowship and took to the streets in the fun and flamboyant Pride Parade, June 15, in downtown Portland.

The day started somewhat cold and cloudy, but then the sun broke through and smiles heated up as the Parade stepped off. UUs marched in order led by Michael Servetus UU, followed by WHUUF, Washington Co., and First Unitarian. WHUUF, it must be said, took the bragging rights with more marchers than any of the other UUs!

The crowds cheered wildly as the WHUUF banners came into view. After all, how often do churches take a stand to support the gay community? One could easily see the gratitude and appreciation expressed by the multitude of faces as we passed.

Social ActionHello from the Social Action Committee. We heard from 32 WHUUF households (representing quite a large number of WHUUFers and their families) who joined us in celebrating the one hour “Lights Out” celebration in honor of Earth Day on Tuesday Apr. 22. We received some really beautiful notes from people sharing how they spent the hour and what it meant to them. All seemed to feel this was a very worthwhile and “enlightening” evening. Thanks to all who participated.
