This article constitutes a request to the congregation to report actions taken on one or more of the 6 issues described below. Reporting can be done by way of comments to this posting, or by email to Don Merrick, Green Sanctuary Committee Chair (see directory for contact information).

The Action Plan (http://www.whuuf.net/article.php/20081123203727556) details our intent on 12 projects. Project 12, titled Assist In Preventing Water Privatization Schemes, calls for an interaction between the congregation at WHUUF and the larger community in which we live. This interaction can be expressed by, first, understanding, and, second, responding to the issues or perceived injustices described herein. Responses can be letters to the editor of significant publications, such as the Oregonian, or contacting the agency or agencies associated with the issue.

We hear increasing calls for the use of nuclear power as a substitute for fossil fuel. Many are calling for the development of nuclear energy as a major part of the solution to our energy needs and a way to stop or remedy our environmental crisis.
Others find this to be a false path.

Shown herein is the Action Plan submitted to the UUA Congregational Stewardship Services on November 4, 2008. On November 17, 2008, a letter was received from UUA CSS accepting the Action Plan. It will be implemented over a two year period. read more

Free Recycling Through the Mail
U.S. Postal Service Starts Service in 1,500 Post Offices
WASHINGTON, DC —Free and green. Those are the goals of a pilot program launched today by the U.S. Postal Service that allows customers to recycle small electronics and inkjet cartridges by mailing them free of charge.

The "Mail Back" program helps consumers make more environmentally friendly choices, making it easier for customers to discard used or obsolete small electronics in an environmentally responsible way.  read more
