Meeting July 29, 2009
Present: Karen James, facilitator; Jennifer Frykman; Rosie Hamilton; Dan Quiggins, board liaison.
NOTE: This group met in 100 degree weather!
Minutes: June 11 minutes were approved as submitted.
Budget: There was no budget report; $1,000 is allocated for ARE.
The Agenda included a statement explaining that ARE was one of the 5-year plan committees. Rosie added that the ARE Committee is a standing committee as well as one of the Long range planning committees. The ARE organization would be discussed by Lifespan Learning Director Rebecca G. Kretzmann at a later date.
ARE Chair position: Karen explained that at the June 11 meeting, she and Jennifer said they would consider co-chairing the committee. Karen said that after careful consideration she has decided not to serve in this position. Jennifer said she is still considering this position and that Jeanette Parsons indicated she may be interested in co-chairing with her. The topic of ARE Chair prompted further discussion.
Reports were given on the tasks assigned at the June 11 meeting.
Committee Member Survey: Karen explained that this meeting was to focus on the new and potential committee members. Three potential members were not in attendance. She distributed a committee member survey she compiled. All agreed it would serve as a useful tool.

•Committee guidelines for RE offerings
•List of Summer & Fall 2009 offerings in MIND-BODY-SPIRIT categories
•An Approach to Religious Education by Rev. Marjorie Montgomery, Southwest UU District
Offerings are needed in the BODY category. We discussed RE offerings and how to assess need, etc
Next meeting is the 4th Wednesday of the month: August 26, 2009
